Charlie O'Brien: The St John's Ambulance and Tesco baby CPR campaign

As a parent – I’d like to think I’m fairly diligent. I always research everything like mad before I make any decision regarding my toddler Noah and like most parents I try my absolute best to keep him happy, healthy and alive!

But there is one area I’ve majorly neglected and I have absolutely no excuse – and that is first aid training.

In fact, I have less excuse than most to have neglected this area – and that is because my dad is a first aid trainer and teacher.

I’m really embarrassed now I’m actually writing this.

When I was pregnant I kept thinking 'I must book in with dad for a paediatric course' and every time we see each other we say the same.

But somehow the days roll into months and now into years and I STILL haven’t learned the basics.

This week I spotted this incredible campaign being run by St John’s Ambulance and Tesco – which involves babygrows that literally tell you how to do CPR on an infant in a series of illustrations - you can watch the video and find out more here.

I think this is such a flipping brilliant idea. Even if people don’t buy the babygrow, hopefully just watching the video is enough for some info to sink in.

You might also remember St John’s Ambulance’s brilliant choking campaign last year that went viral.

The babygrow is available in size 3-6 months only

Thank goodness this information is being spread on places like Facebook for idiots like me who haven’t done a basic first aid course. I’m so so angry at myself for letting my son get to almost two and not having done this.

I’m seeing my dad first thing tomorrow and that’s it – I’m booking in.

He’s a wonderful trainer who also works as a First Responder with the London Ambulance Serviceand is so incredibly knowledgeable.

I’d love to know if you’ve done a first aid course since having children? And more importantly, have you ever needed to use it?
