Hythe Venetian Fete takes place on Wednesday, August 21 on the Royal Military Canal

A floating extravaganza of family fun is promised at the Hythe Venetian Fete.

A raft of gorgeously decorated floats are getting ready to set sail down the Royal Military Canal on Wednesday evening (August 21).

The bi-annual event is exceptionally popular with families who flock to see the unusual water-based afternoon and evening carnival.

Gates will open at 4pm ahead of live music to entertain visitors.

At 7pm the event is officially opened and the daylight parade will set off.

After the daylight parade there is an interval for spectators to enjoy the on-site funfair, stalls or to snap up refreshments as well as additional live entertainment and music.

A fireworks display then takes place around 8.50pm before the floats are illuminated at dusk and make their way along the water again for a second time.

Clubs, organisations, charities and businesses all take part in the event with prizes available for best floral, best dressed rowers, best illuminated and for the best overall entry to the fete.

Advanced tickets are now available to attend the Venetian Fete with a number also being available on the gate on the day.
