Tunstall School in Sittingbourne holds first summer fete on its own fields

by My Kent Family reporter

A school will cut the ribbon on the first summer fete within its own grounds this Saturday (July 1).

Tunstall Church of England Primary School in Sittingbourne is holding the event from midday.

The school moved to its new site in Tunstall Road in April 2016 but has been unable to use its playing fields until now to allow seeded grass to grow.

The school had to borrow a neighbouring school's fields last year for the fete.

The summer fete, which has a Wild West Theme, will be the school’s first opportunity to show-off its new playing fields to the community - having last year been forced to borrow Fulston Manor School’s neighbouring land to host summer events including the fete and sports day.

Headteacher Mrs Kate Hutchings said ‘I am very pleased to welcome the public to our school and hope everyone enjoys our fete."

The school fete runs until 3pm and entry is £1 for adults and free for children.

Alongside the traditional games, refreshments and stalls will be a visit by the county’s emergency services, a rodeo, climbing wall, electronic ride-on animals, helta -skelter and other inflatables and golf and football challenges.

The fete will be closed by North and South Line Dancing Club in keeping with the theme.

All money raised from the fete is being ploughed into a massive fundraising campaign for playground and outdoor equipment, which is needed since the school moved to its new home.

Half of everything raised by the Parent Teacher Association is donated to the project, which has already cost £14,000. A further £8,000 is needed to complete the work.
