Historic Dockyard Chatham hosts Michael Foreman's work

Stomp around like a dinosaur, discover an unlikely friend, embark on an air raid experience with ARP wardens or snuggle down in a cosy reading corner and sketch away.

Such a magical journey will be available to families from this Friday (September 29) when children's book illustrator Michael Foreman opens his sketchbook to visitors at The Historic Dockyard in Chatham.

His work, in an exhibition called Painting With Rainbows, will be on display within the No.1 Smithery until November 26.

Michael Foreman is one of Britain's best known creators of books for children.

His work includes Dinosaurs and All That Rubbish, War Boy, War Game and Superfrog.

He's illustrated work also includes The Lion Who Ate Everything, Pirates Ahoy! and The Little Dinosaur.

With original artwork on show alongside playful props and costumes, the exhibition explores Michael's storytelling in an interactive and child-friendly way making it perfect for families with youngsters of all ages.

There will also be storytelling, drawing activities and even the opportunity to head into a Second World War air raid shelter.

While the Tree of Hope at the end of the exhibition encourages children to pen their own hopes and dreams to put on display before they leave.
