KM Charity Team’s Perfect Packed Lunch competition

The world cup may already be fading into golden memories, but that doesn’t mean it can’t help keep a smile on your children’s faces over the summer holiday.

The KM Charity Team’s Perfect Packed Lunch competition aims to get primary school children’s creative and culinary juices flowing by using drawing and writing skills to design their ideal lunchbox contents.

Children must draw pictures of their meals, and give a written description of the ingredients and recipes and why they are so special. They must also choose a category for their creations from the following options: Superhero, Princess, Pirate Captain, Famous Artist, Knight, Book Character, Celebrity, Healthy, Cheesy, Fantasy, Fairytale, Historic.

And if you chose the Heathy opton, then England’s World Cup heroes could provide plenty of inspiration.

So, what did England manager Gareth Southgate slip into his players’ lunchboxes to make them perform so well in the World Cup?

Was it pasta that made Harry Kane such a hot shot in Russia or fish that helped Jordan Pickford excel between the goalposts.

The competition offers a wonderful opportunity for budding young artists, with the shortlisted entrants having their work put on public display at one of the county’s premier exhibition spaces the Beaney House of Art and Knowledge in Canterbury.

The finalists will also be invited to attend an awards ceremony at the Beaney. And the overall winner will receive a box of goodies from competition supporter, Kent art shop Cowling and Wilcox.

Event organiser Sophie Wallace said: “Most children can’t wait until the holidays begin, but all too often it’s not long after the school gates have been locked for the summer that they’re kicking their heels, complaining about being bored.

“If you’re lost for ideas about fun but affordable ways of keeping them – and you – happy, why not get them involved with the Perfect Packed Lunch?

“The competition aims to unlock children’s creativity and get them thinking about healthy eating by using drawing and writing skills to design their ideal lunchbox contents.

“All they need is some paper and pencils or pens, and they can really let their imaginations run riot creating fun, imaginative and healthy ideas.”
