Kent's beaches ranked fifth in UK beating Dorset and Cumbria

Kent's coastline has been ranked amongst the top five in the UK, beating holiday hotspots such as Dorset and Cumbria.

The Holiday Cottage company revealed that the county, home to stunning beaches such as Dungeness, Botany Bay and Whitstable, had come fifth in its annual league table.

Holiday Cottages, a leading accommodation provider, reviewed all the coastlines around the UK to collate the data.

Each coastline was scored according to how many awards it has, the number of Instagram hashtags, how many national parks it has and its coast path length.

The results show that Devon is the best overall coastline in the UK, with Cornwall and Hampshire also making the top three, followed by the Highland coastline and then Kent and Pembrokeshire in joint fifth.

Sixth was Cumbria, then Norfolk, Sussex, Dorset and in 10th place was the Gwynedd coastline.

Shannon Keary from Stay In Cornwall, said: “We have had our hearts and minds opened up to the amazing places to visit we have right here in the UK.

"We thought this research could help those in search of some coastal inspiration for a UK holiday in 2022.

"The data has been really fascinating to analyse."

This isn't the first time Kent has been praised for it's stunning beaches and coast.

Last year Kent's Heritage Coast was named as one of the best regions to visit beating Puerto Rico and Vancouver Island.
