Deal Maritime & Local History Museum reopens after lockdown with fun giant shoe and peep boards among attractions

Deal Museum has reopened its doors after 20 months of lockdown with new attractions to see and photograph.

During this time, volunteers have been busy reorganising all displays and re-discovering gems from the archive at the attraction in St George's Road.

Now there's a social history display upstairs, including the Hooden Horses, lots of signs from old shops from the High Street, a violin made of clay, some famous books, and oddities discovered around the town.

There's picture appeal for the young and old alike with a giant shoe and peep boards inspired by Deal's Heroes of the Goodwin Sands and writer Elizabeth Carter.

Downstairs has been cleared out and tidied so that visitors can see old lifejackets and treasures more clearly.

There is a timeline of Deal's history and a display of some of the many photos of Basil Kidd, the legendary photographer of the East Kent Mercury newspaper.

Model boats (and real ones) are in plentiful supply inside and outside.

And it is in the sheltered courtyard, where local artists Christine Hodson and Jane Dickins peep boards can be photographed.

The Museum is open from 1pm to 4pm Friday, Saturday and Sunday and entry is free.

There is a temporary display that will change monthly - this month celebrates Deal's Regatta and Carnival.
