How to enjoy Easter at home with the family during lockdown

Just because we're staying home, doesn't mean we can't have a cracking Easter.

If you've got some bouncing bunnies cooped up at home, this long weekend is a time to have some easy and inexpensive fun. Here's some ideas to inspire you:

1 Paint your own designs on your eggs - you can make them as bright as you like, or could have everyone's initials on

2 Play pin the tail on the... bunny - just make the classic children's game Easter themed with a different picture

3 When you're doing your essential shop, you can buy Easter eggs for little ones (and bigger ones). Why not hide them around your house or in the garden, if you have one, for a fun Easter egg hunt? Make sure the best ones are in really tricky places

4 Fill a jar with mini eggs and guess how many are in there - the winner can have get to eat theirs first

5 Make an Easter egg advent calendar - underneath each egg in their box over the Easter weekend put a game all the family can play

6 Have a sack race and pin a bunny tail on the back if you can to make it a bouncing bunnies sack race

7 Watch the latest family films out now to stream, including Trolls World Tours, available to stream and download from various platforms.

Released in 2016, Trolls was an infectious computer-animated adventure based on the fluffy-haired good luck creatures designed by Thomas Dam. In response to the Covid-19 pandemic, the sequel becomes one of the first major studio films to debut as a download release. Poppy (voiced by Anna Kendrick) and Branch (Timberlake) discover that there are six different troll tribes scattered over six different lands. Each tribe is devoted to six different kinds of music - funk, country, techno, classical, pop and rock. When rockers Queen Barb and King Thrash set out to destroy the other music, Poppy and Branch embark on a daring mission to unite the trolls and save them from becoming extinct.

11 Record a video message or facetime family or friends

12 Draw some Easter pictures and Happy Easter messages and display them in your front windows to spread the joy

14 Brogdale in Faversham is also shut but has launched Green Space Bingo to keep kids busy. The downloadable bingo asks families to spot beetles, blossom, snails, sparrows and other nature in their gardens or on their daily walks and to take a photo and share it. Find out more here.

15 Make your own facepaints - Dawn Isaac in her book 101 Things for Kids to do Screen-Free (published by Kyle Books, £10.99) has these tips:

You'll need: a bowl, teaspoon, cornflour, face or body lotion, plain flour, water, vegetable oil, small pots, food colouring, brushes, mirror

Mix 4 teaspoons cornflour, 4 teaspoons lotion, 2 teaspoons flour, 2 teaspoons water, 2 teaspoons oil. Mix them into a smooth paste and divide this between several small lidded pots. Add a few drops of different food colouring to each until you have the range of paints you need. Then paint your face! It takes about half an hour to dry so don't smudge it while you wait. Also, be careful not to get it on your clothes as the food colouring can stain.
