Swallows Leisure Centre prepares to open Family Adventure Zone in Sittingbourne
An indoor climbing attraction and new soft play centre will open at a Kent leisure centre in time for the school holidays.
Swallows Leisure Centre in Sittingbourne is currently undergoing a multi-million pound refurbishment.
As part of the redevelopment Swale Community Leisure is building a Family Adventure Zone with Clip 'n Climb indoor climbing, new soft play and additional cafe.
The new family attraction will have its own entrance - reached from the Wyvern end of the leisure centre, opposite Sittingbourne police station.
Dave Harcourt, chief executive of Swale Community Leisure, which runs the leisure services on behalf of Swale Borough Council says work is expected to be finished by the end of the month.
There will then be some additional staff training and trial events before the Family Adventure Zone opens in July.
He added: "It will be open in time for the summer holidays."
Families can look forward to 13 climbing walls provided by Clip n Climb, which also has an attraction in Tonbridge and recently opened similar experience at Dover Leisure Centre, new soft play facilities suitable for children aged up to 10 complete with sensory zone and overhead football pitch and a deli-style cafe offering hot and cold drinks and snacks.
Mr Harcourt says a pricing structure for the Family Adventure Zone is currently being calculated which will have varying rates depending on the time and day of the week families wish to attend and which activities they want to take part in.
Sessions will be available to pre-book once the system is live and both climbing and soft play parties, which in time will also benefit from two new party rooms, will join Swallows existing offering of birthday celebrations.
Work across the centre has cost more than £2.5 million and also includes a refurbished gym, new roof for the swimming pool and a fresh cafe for the reception area.
