The Mason Foundation seeks Medway families to act as ambassadors for Family Miles
Families in a Kent town are being sought to act as sporting ambassadors for a new fitness initiative which is encouraging households to cover a mile together.
The Mason Foundation organises 'Family Miles' which are free, fun events encouraging families to come together to run, jog or walk a mile for the benefit of mental and physical health.
After pilot projects in Maidstone and at Mote Park the charity is preparing to roll out further events in Thanet and Medway later this year in partnership with Sport England.
The aim of events is to provide a safe, friendly, welcoming environment for people to come along and walk alongside their communities in open spaces.
Participants can walk, run, jog, push a pram, bring scooters and bikes or even the family pet - the goal is simply to enjoy the fresh air and challenge of covering the distance together.
The aim of the organised events is to encourage everyone to feel the benefits of physical activity, which is perhaps more important than ever as families continue to adjust to the restrictions of the coronavirus pandemic.
It is also hoped joining a Family Mile event could act as a first step to activity for many people who may otherwise be feeling that exercise is not for them.
Organisers says it relies heavily on local people to support the set up and delivery of each organised mile event and it is now seeking Mason Mile Ambassadors in Medway for the Family Mile initiative to help get future events off the ground.
