From learning about hop picking and harvesting to making the most of Kent's maize maze before it closes - there is plenty to do, see and try in Kent this weekend.

Maze Moon, Gillingham

Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13

The 10-acre pumpkin sized maize maze remains open on weekends for families looking to enjoy the great outdoors.

The attraction has proved hugely popular this summer and there are just a couple of weekends left to take it on before attention turns to Halloween and pumpkin patches!

Maze Moon farm is located on the Lower Rainham Road, half a mile from the Rainham Pumpkin Moon farm and close to The Riverside Country Park.

Heritage Open Days, countywide

From Friday, September 11

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, and every September places across the county throw open their doors to visitors for free! This year's festival begins on Friday, September 11 and runs until September 20.

Due to coronavirus some events are a running differently this year including Canterbury's Medieval Family Festival which takes place as a digital event this year and begins on Friday here .

But amongst the attractions welcoming visitors in person is the Edith May Thames sailing barge in Lower Halstow, the Palace Cinema in Broadstairs, events in Gravesend's St Andrews Gardens to mark Talk Like A Pirate Day and Dover's self guided Bluebird Trail is also welcoming walkers.

Hops N Harvest Festival, Kent Life, Sandling near Maidstone

Saturday, September 12 and Sunday, September 13

Join in the traditional hand picking of hops, meet historical characters from Kent's past, visit one of the last working coal-fired oast houses in the country and understand more about hop-making from picking to drying at this family festival taking place across the weekend.

For the adults there will also be the opportunity to sample locally brewed ales and ciders whilst enjoying live music.

The event takes place on Saturday and Sunday and to ensure all government guidelines can be met families must book their tickets in advance.

Learn to Ride, Betteshanger Country Park near Deal

If you're struggling to get your little one to ditch the stabilisers and begin riding on two wheels then this course could be for you. Learn to ride sessions are aimed at children aged five to 12 are returning to the park due to popular demand.

The Friends of Kent Churches Sponsored Ride & Stride, countywide

Saturday, September 12

Get the kids out on two wheels and take part in this sponsored bike ride you can do under your own steam.

Various Kent churches are taking part in the event which encourages riders to plan their own routes which enable them to stop at historic chapels.
