1) BFG in pictures

Delight in Roald Dahl’s BFG with this exhibition of Quentin Blake drawings which is running until Sunday, May 20 at The Beaney. There are some small charges for the related family activities. All the details can be found at canterburymuseums.co.uk

2) Nerf battle

Saturday, March 17

Kids over six can do battle in the indoor Nerf area at Canterbury Christ Church University Sports Centre in Pilgrims Way. From 11.30am for an hour, it costs £7 to take part. Details and what you need to bring can be found at canterbury.co.uk/events

3) Dover Castle

All weekend

The castle is open five days a week, Wednesday to Sunday, throughout March so now's the time to explore the Great Tower, where the kids can sit on the royal throne and the secret wartime tunnels of the Second World War. Details and admission prices at english-heritage.org.uk/visit/

4) Saturday club, Folkestone Wood Avenue Library

Saturday, March 17

Children aged seven and up can learn a new hobby or skill at the club on Saturday at the library in Wood Avenue. Youngsters can try crafts, knitting, drama and creative writing. Details at folkestone.towntalk.co.uk

5) Bugs and Grubs, Kent Life, Maidstone

All weekend

The Bugs and Grubs Weekend returns to Kent Life Heritage Farm Park with a full programme of bug-themed activities and animal encounters at the award-winning Maidstone attraction. 6) Penshurst Place and Gardens

All weekend

Walk through the house and be transported back to the 16th Century, as the staff of the time welcome you to see and learn all about their battle preparations and their plans to defend Penshurst Place! This is a live-action event not to be missed and is included in the price of a standard gardens entry ticket which is for an adult £9.50 and a child £6.00.

7) Take a walk in the park

Brockhill Country Park, Near Hythe

Woods, meadows, lakes and play areas – Brockhill is the perfect spot for a day out. Once part of the estate of a Norman manor, the park is humming with wildlife and has three areas to explore: the deer paddock, which is a grassy area with a range of trees, the lake, a shady oasis for wildlife with overhanging trees, and the valley which is the largest part and has a stream running through it. The park is open from 9am daily until dusk.
