A Kent attraction says it is offering 'so much more for family visits' since the opening of its new woodland walk and nature play trail.

English Heritage is behind the fantastic new play areas at Walmer Castle and Gardens.

Whilst the property's grounds have always been a great place for kids to let off steam - the new arrivals together with now two on-site cafes for refreshments - make this an ideal place to play.

Enjoy the woodland walk and trail at Walmer

Young visitors can enjoy climbing into hollow tree trunks and giant nests, crossing wobbly bridges, conquering climbing nets and gazing up through the trees on leaf-shaped sky seats.

And as you move around the trail there is the chance to learn a little about the wildlife by spotting sculptures of woodland birds.

The new Glasshouse Café is also open and serving refreshments to hungry families with a changing seasonal menu of snacks, lunches and home made cakes and on select weekends they will also be serving up traditional roast dinners with all the trimmings alongside vegetarian/vegan options.

There are lots of new places to play at Walmer Castle

Families are being encouraged to consider purchasing an English Heritage membership if planning a visit, which can be one of the most economical ways to make repeat visits to both Walmer Castle and other English Heritage properties during a year.

A family of 2 adults with a membership is able, says the organisation, to take up to 12 children with them for free for a whole year, not only to Walmer Castle but also to other Kent sites, Dover Castle, Deal Castle, Lullingstone Roman Villa near Dartford and The Home of Charles Darwin, Down House, near Orpington as well as any of the other 400 English Heritage sites around England.

Youngsters will be able to explore lots of new areas at Walmer Castle and Gardens

The cost of a family membership with one adult and up to six children is £60 per year, and £105 for two adults and up to 12 children.

Whilst a day ticket to Walmer Castle and Gardens costs £35.10 for a family of two adults and three children (with gift aid). To learn more about ticket options and prices, or for additional details about Walmer Castle and Gardens please click here.
