Two sisters from Kent who would ordinarily be organising exciting and inspiring real-life meet-ups for families, have used their contact books to bring together big brands and social media influencers to help keep kids entertained from home instead.

Laura Swann and Natalie Natalie Mcilveen launched Mum's the Word back in 2016 and have since then organised glamorous meet-ups, supper clubs, talks and parties across Kent, Sussex, Surrey and London with a family or parenting focus.

Sisters Laura and Natalie ordinarily would be organising real-life meet-ups for parents and families

But since the coronavirus outbreak brought with it new guidelines on socialising and seeing friends, and all Mum's the Word events have had to be either put on hold or rearranged, the pair have been hurriedly organising a programme of events to keep children busy instead.

The parents from Tunbridge Wells have roped in some of their most popular influencers, crafters and cooks, and teamed up with shoe company Kickers to run a packed programme of holiday activities - albeit a virtual one.

Cooking for kids are among the new virtual meet-ups for families

Everyday at 11am free video workshops are broadcast online teaching families everything from cooking to meditation and each week of the school holidays has a differing programme of events.

Week one, running until Good Friday includes science experiments, crafting and guided meditation. Whilst week two, beginning on Easter Monday, also includes classes in street dance and cooking.

Laura said: "The Easter holidays are going to feel a bit different this year - so we have been working hard alongside Kickers Kids UK to create some fun activities to keep the kids busy over what would have been the Easter holidays."

And with considerable expertise in running events for families, the pair have said they are also looking into the possibility of virtual events or meet-ups for parents as well, as everyone finds ways of juggling life at home with working from home and schooling.

Family festival Camp Bestival has also announced plans for a virtual programme of entertainment with a Stay at Home Easter Sleepover for families this weekend. The event is in place of its planned party at Dreamland Margate and will bring together live acts, DJs, comedy and family workshops. Read more here.
