Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats in Boughton Monchelsea has reopened

A goat sanctuary says visitors now able to come through its gates again will help bring essential funds it desperately needs to recover from Covid-19.

Buttercups Sanctuary for Goats in Boughton Monchelsea is now welcoming back visitors since the guidelines on animal parks were relaxed.

Like many charities across the county Buttercups, which is the only sanctuary for goats in the UK, has been hit hard by the pandemic and was forced to launch an emergency appeal to pay for food and medical treatment for its animals during lockdown

The charity which cares for more than 130 goats, has been saving the creatures from cruelty and neglect for more than 30 years. It now welcomes the opportunity to reopen to visitors once again, who can pay a donation to visit during the open days, with new measures in place to protect both staff and guests.

This includes new dedicated entrances and exits to make it easier for people to maintain a social distance along with additional signs to help people move easily around the site.

Founder Robert Hitch explained: "The stable area is out of bounds but there is still the whole of the park people can wander around.

"The tea room is also closed but we are still offering takeaway drinks and people can come and feed the goats from separated feeding booths."

Other animal parks in Maidstone are now following suit with Kent Life gearing up to open on Saturday, July 4.

The farm attraction has introduced a number of new measures including restricting the number of guests on site each day who will need to pre-book tickets, currently available at a reduced price, ahead of visiting.
