The Beaney, Canterbury exhibits British Wildlife Photography Awards

A barn owl and a kestrel are set to be the guests of honour at the family launch of a wildlife photography exhibition.

The Beaney in Canterbury is welcoming the two birds of prey along with other members of the UK Owl and Raptor Company this Saturday (November 10).

A range of wildlife-themed family activities is on offer at the Canterbury museum to celebrate the arrival if its latest free exhibition - the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

Winning images are chosen from thousands of entries in 15 separate categories including a category for film and two junior categories to encourage young people to connect with nature through photography.

But to celebrate the arrival of the exhibition in Kent, the building in the centre of the city has organised a morning of wildlife-themed activities for children between 10am and noon.

Alongside the chance to meet the two UK native birds will be interactive handling experiences of birth feathers and owl pellets - and children can even join a pellet dissection workshop to discover what the owls have been eating!

While creative activities include making your own wildlife mask (£1 per person), make and decorate binoculars to spot the museum's wildlife and then use the stamp to complete a wildlife bingo card and find all the animals to win a prize (£4) and create a wildlife habitat (£1.50 per person). Youngsters can also do all three activities for £6.

The photography exhibition, which is free, will run from Saturday, November 10 until Sunday, February 17 (closed Mondays).
