Fans of Ben Stiller's adventures in Night at the Museum will be able to recreate their own after-dark museum memories this Halloween in Canterbury.

The Beaney House of Art and Knowledge is inviting families to stay into the evening to enjoy a spooktacular fundraising event.

For one afternoon and one night only, the city museum is becoming a haunted house and launching frighteningly good family fun on Friday, October 26 between noon and 8.30pm.

There will be a ghost hunt trail, costing £5 per trail or group, in which budding detectives need to solve the disappearance of Edith Miller who vanished in 1904. Strange things have started happening around the galleries, objects are moving and staff have reported seeing a ghostly figure. Follow the clues and help solve the mystery and if you get the answers right you could be in with a chance of winning a Samsung Galaxy Tablet.

Halloween handling sessions to investigate some spooky artefacts from the museum's collection and pumpkin carving are also both taking place in timed sessions throughout the day for £4 per person or £3.50 if booked in advance with the museum.

To add to the atmosphere, everyone is also encouraged to come dressed for the occasion, with prizes in the form of Halloween sweets and treats also up for grabs for the spookiest fancy dress.

And if that wasn't enough to keep families entertained, The Black Cauldron Bar will be serving an array of drinks for adults from wine and beers to gin and rum together with Halloween cocktails and mocktails while the cafe will be serving a special Halloween menu including nachos, hot dogs and popcorn.
