One of Kent's most popular railway attractions is hoping to get back on track next month and finally reopen to the public.

The Romney Hythe and Dymchurch Railway says, following the latest government advice and guidelines issues to leisure attractions, it plans to restart services on Monday, April 12.

The announcement is set to be welcome news for families still on the second week of their Easter break by the middle of April who may be on the lookout for something else to do with the kids before they head back to school.

RH&DR says it will be continuing with an enhanced range of health and safety measures to protect passengers and teams using the railway which includes perspex screens between each carriage compartment, one way systems around catering outlets and gift shops and social distancing markers.

Pre-booking will also be essential to avoid disappointment and to enable the attraction to carefully control visitor numbers.

In preparation for reopening next month organisers, who have used funding from the government's Cultural Recovery Fund to continue with several projects and maintenance during the lockdown closure, say they plan to begin running trial steam journeys on some weekends in March and early April to familiarise drivers with the new timetable.

Whilst stations will remain unavailable on those weekends anyone in East Kent who sees a passing train during a daily walk is encouraged to give them a wave!
