A big friendly giant of an exhibition is preparing to open in Kent to exhibit Quentin Blake's magical illustrations of the BFG.

BFG in Pictures was curated by the man himself and features 40 of his original artworks.

The exhibition opens at Canterbury's The Beaney in the city centre on Saturday March 3.

Included in the displays will be unpublished illustrations exhibited for the first time alongside the final illustrations for the book.

Family friendly activities, art and craft sessions and a 'share your dream' competition will all run alongside it.

Open to all ages, the Share Your Dream competition invites entrants to share their dreams through pictures, poetry or short stories for the opportunity to have their work transformed into an original illustration that will go on display in The Beaney.

There are three age categories - six and under, seven to 12 and the 'big kids' category for those aged 13 and over.

Runners up and winners in the ‘big kids’ category will also have the opportunity to participate in a special writing workshop hosted by a published author.

BFG In Pictures is at The Beaney

The exhibition and associated activities are all part of the new Beaney family programme.

This has been designed to create a welcoming experience for families across the city council’s museums and galleries combining free and affordable activities at weekends and over school holidays with high quality exhibitions.
