But families wishing to tuck them away until December might need to be quick because despite the weather and return to school rush, the Star Wars 2021 advent calendar and the Lego Marvel Avengers release is already listed as sold out on a number of websites including official website Lego.com and retailer John Lewis.

Two exclusive minifigures included in the Star Wars calendar is thought to be behind its popularity many months ahead of the festive season.

Interest in advent calendars has exploded in recent years with the Christmas countdowns no longer just contained to the traditional sweets and chocolate aimed at children.

Instead a variety of calendars aimed at people of all ages have been released in recent years showcasing everything from jewellery, perfume and make-up ranges to artisan cheese, gin, craft beer, popcorn and even pork scratchings all hidden behind 24 little doors.

Lego fans and collectors keen to get their hands on one of the Christmas items already sold out can sign up online for stock alerts to notify them of when the item will be available to buy again.

This year's Star Wars calendar, costing £24.99, is inspired by The Mandalorian Season 2 and includes all the parts for a minifigure, buildable vehicle, weapon or accessory, while there are a whopping seven minifigures among the Avengers' 24 doors including Iron Man, Spider-Man, Black Widow, Thor, Captain Marvel and Thanos, perhaps also contributing to its overwhelming popularity.

Costing the same amount as the Star Wars and Avengers calendars is this year's Harry Potter-themed calendar, while the Lego City and Lego Friends releases are £19.99.
