Veronika Chromkova from Gillingham sets up Strong Mama, a walking group for mums and children

New mums are being invited to join a group that will not only help them to get outside, but also empower them so they can run the project for themselves.

Walking group, Strong Mama, aims to support and motivate women with young children to be active and to socialise in the fresh air.

The free community project has been set up by Veronika Chromkova from Gillingham.

The 31-year-old said: “I’m not a mum myself but my friends have babies and they always struggle to find a way to get a little bit active.

“It’s a free walking groups for mums so they can bring their babies and older children with them and just enjoy fresh air.

“It’s a way for mums to get outside and get together with other mums, and have fun. If they have one, two, three kids, they can bring them all and not have to worry about childcare costs.”

As well as getting mums and babies outdoors, Miss Chromkova also hopes the women who come along will take ownership of the project.

She said: “I hope they can be an inspiration for each other, and empower themselves in this group. They can get involved with the project, organise activities, become leaders, set up social media, so they can run project by themselves.”

At the moment the group meets at the Great Lines Heritage Park but Miss Chromkova’s goal is to help mums set up walking groups across Medway, Kent and further afield.
