New Luxmuralis light show, Time, to illuminate Rochester Cathedral this autumn
A captivating new light show is taking visitors on a journey through time.
Luxmuralis, an artistic collaboration between sculptor Peter Walker and composer David Harper, returns to Rochester Cathedral with its latest audio-visual display, Time.
The light and sound spectacular will capture different eras from human history and explore our relationship with the concept of time, from scientific theories to intricate clockwork.
The piece is inspired by H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine – a dystopian science fiction novella published in 1895 – and features a dramatic narrative depicted by bespoke music and vibrant projections.
The colourful artwork will be projected onto the walls of the cathedral and is accompanied by an immersive soundscape.
It’s the fifth time that Luxmuralis has brought its colourful displays to Rochester, with the previous piece, Scriptorium: The Illuminated Histories, illuminating the historic building last year.
Peter Walker, who also serves as the group’s artistic director, said:
“We’re so excited to bring Time to Rochester – an immersive journey that lets you step through the centuries in a completely new way.
“Through powerful light, sound, and storytelling, this installation transforms your surroundings and takes you from the present day all the way back through time itself.
“It’s not just something to watch — it’s something to feel, explore, and experience. Time allows thousands of visitors to wander through the artwork and lose themselves in the flow of the ages.”
Time will be at Rochester Cathedral from Tuesday, September 30 to Saturday, October 4. You can book tickets online here.
The show lasts approximately 40 minutes and timeslots start from 6.50pm each day.
