This year, pupils from 14 schools will lead the procession, carrying lanterns they have been making in workshops in the run-up to the event.

There will also be a programme of performances from acts including DDFK Brass Band, Bloco Fogo Samba, Kings of Dhol and stilt walkers.

Further entertainment will take place at One Bell Corner, where DJ Ross and vocalist Naz will provide musical beats.

The festival, which is in its 16th year, is hosted by arts organisation Cohesion Plus in collaboration with not-for-profit Same Sky Arts.

Artistic director of Cohesion Plus, Gurvinder Sandher said: “The Dartford Festival of Light has always been about bringing people together, and this year’s theme of unity, solidarity and community feels especially meaningful.
