Things to do in Kent this weekend - February 16 and 17

Kick start the half term break with a fantastic family outing.

We've rounded up some of the events and activities taking place over the coming days.

From hunting for fairies to imagining you're a knight in shining armour - here are some suggestions for your weekend:

Fairy Scavenger Hunt, Whitstable Castle

Saturday, February 16 until Friday, February 22

Come and hunt for fairies at Whitstable Castle this half term. Collect your trail sheet from reception - only £1 per child - and scour the grounds for the miniature creatures.

The Orangery Tearooms will be open all day serving light lunches, cream teas and hot and cold drinks. Enjoy the trail between 11am and 3pm.

New Dinotropolis soft play, Bluewater Shopping Centre

Saturday, February 16

This Saturday sees the opening of a second dino-themed soft play centre for Bluewater. Following the opening four months ago of adventure park Dinotropolis, a second satellite soft play centre for pre-school aged children is opening elsewhere in the Greenhithe centre as a pop-up style shop. It will cost just £5 to visit and you can come and go as many times in the day as you wish. It opens for the first time this Saturday and all the details can be found here.

A Knight in Shining Armour Heritage Trail, Rochester Castle

Saturday, February 16 until Sunday, February 24

Take part in the themed heritage trail, to find the knight’s shining armour. Find the knight’s armour around the Keep of the castle for a chance to win a small prize. The cost is 80p per child, plus the castle's normal admission fee.Half term activities are aimed at youngsters aged five to 12 but all are welcome to take part. Learn more by clicking here.

Hibernation Trail, Ightam Mote

Saturday, February 16 until Sunday, February 24

Become a nature detective this half-term and follow the hibernation trail. Taking you through the grounds and gardens to learn more about the native animals living at Ightam Mote. No additional charge applies to take part in the trail. Learn more by clicking here.

Chinese New Year activities, Royal Engineers Museum, Gillingham

Saturday, February 16 until Sunday, February 24

Join in as the museum celebrates and get creative with Year of the Pig activities. Come and admire the museum’s beautiful Chinese Collection and design your own pig cushion or paper lantern to take home. Activities run from 11am until 3pm and the cost is £2 per activity in addition to standard admission prices.

Sunday, February 17

Celebrate the Year of the Pig with the East Kent Chinese Community at its annual Chinese New Year show. Get a taste of Chinese culture, enjoy a colourful and exciting show including the famous lion dance, music, singing, and after the main show hot food will be served (included in the ticket price).
