Things to do in Kent this weekend

It's the start of half term for many and Halloween is on the horizon. That means there is plenty happening in the county and lots of activities for families.
We've rounded up seven you might enjoy:

1 Spooky Halloween Trail, Upnor Castle

Embark on a spooky trail around the river-side castle at Upnor. There will be a small prize if you can complete the trail around the English Heritage attraction.

The cost to take part is 80p - normal Castle admission prices also apply.

2 Apple Fayre, Perry Court Farm, Ashford

Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21

Morris dancers, shire horses, vintage engines and ploughing demonstrations alongside farm walks and the chance to meet the animals - the Apple Fayre at Perry Farm is bursting with activities. In the marquee there will be country crafts including spinning and woodwork, as well as farm refreshments and the opportunity to taste all the apples.

3 Canterbury Festival Opening Day Celebrations, Canterbury City Centre

Canterbury Festival kicks off this Saturday and to mark the opening day is the annual colourful parade through the city. Bursting with colour and sound the parade takes place between noon and 1pm moving along the High Street and into Whitefriars. Between 1pm and 4pm Airhedz will be performing a selection of eye watering aerial skills from their rig in Whitefriars as well as running taster sessions.

4 The Timekeepers Return, Canterbury's Cathedral Quarter

Saturday, October 20

A story-based immersive treasure hunt for all ages is taking place this Saturday in one part of Canterbury. It starts at the compass in Longmarket Square and treasure hunters need to scan QR code stickers scattered throughout Canterbury’s Cathedral Quarter to discover secrets about their locations.

Everyone who completes the challenge will receive a reward, and be entered into a prize draw for the chance to win some local treasures including Marlowe Theatre panto tickets. Families will need a keen eye for detail and a QR code scanner installed on a smartphone. Allow up to two hours to complete the quest, but feel free to take the journey at your own pace. 5 Little Fant 'Pumpkin' Farm

Sunday, October 21

Little Fant Farm will become Little Fant Pumpkin Farm on Sunday, October 21 as its Halloween celebrations begin. The opportunity to pick your own pumpkins together with arts and crafts is taking place on Sunday between 11am and 4pm. It is the first day of a week-long programme of activities to mark the start of half term. Entry is free and there is parking on the site too. To learn more click here.

6 Pilgrims Hospice 5k Colour Run, The Oval, Margate

Sunday, October 21

Gather friends and family to join the energetic atmosphere of over 1,000 people running, jogging and walking along Thanet’s seafront passing through brightly coloured powder paint clouds as you go through crazy colour stations around the route. Advanced entry for the Colour Run has now closed but you can still enter on the day by heading to the On the Day registration desks at the venue between 9am and 11am.

7 Family walk, Crab and Winkle Line, Canterbury

Sunday, October 21

Whitstable Rotary Club will be walking the Crab and Winkle Line on Sunday afternoon and are welcoming families to join them. Walkers should meet at the Kent College car park at 2pm where cars can be left before setting off at 2.15pm. There is no charge to take part but a donation to charity is requested.
