Sunflower picking makes the perfect Instagram opportunity at Pumpkin Moon in Maidstone

by Angela Cole

A farm which attracts hundreds of visitors every year for its pumpkin picking has branched out into sunflowers for this summer holidays.

It was back in 2016 that Charlie Eckley first launched Pumpkin Moon at Boarley Farm in Sandling, Maidstone, offering a day out picking pumpkins and squashes for Halloween, with 13 different varieties.

The Instagram-friendly pastime, which grew to more than 80 varieties, proved so popular, he has now also expanded into the perfect picture opportunity for the season - sunflower picking.

He has grown 25,000 sunflowers in his field in Maidstone for the first time this year, and opened for PYO sunflowers last weekend.

Charlie said: "They are just coming out, and are starting to look pretty amazing."

And if you thought sunflowers only come in yellow, think again - there are more than 20 different varieties to choose from in yellow, orange, deep red, bi-colour and white.
