Charlie O'Brien blog: A visit to Little Street, Maidstone

by Lauren Abbott

When we were invited along to try out the brand new Little Street just opened in Maidstone– we jumped at the chance.

Little Street is a company that creates ‘real’ streets for children to allow them to immerse themselves in creative role play.

Over the years I’ve seen friends on social media posting pictures of their trips to other Little Street centres but there has never been one close enough to Kent – so this is very exciting.

Did someone ring 999?

Even though the centre isn’t huge it felt really spacious and there were plenty of staff on hand to help and continuously tidy up and make sure all the props were in the right rooms!

The space is split into the various shops and sections – a medical centre, a construction yard, a cake shop, a supermarket, a police station, a learning centre and a place to dress up.

There is also a fire engine and an area for horses!

Highlights for Noah were the fire engine, the supermarket and the café where he tried more than one of the delicious looking plastic cakes!

For me it was wonderful to see him in awe of all the things to do and to see him using his blossoming imagination. It was such a refreshing change from the usual soft plays we go to.

Little Street recommend their centres are suitable from walking age to about seven, which I’d say is perfect.

Noah is two and loved every second. There were also much older children there having a brilliant time.

Other things to mention about the new Maidstone centre are the coffee and seating area for parents and carers and good toilets with baby changing facilities.

All the staff were also really helpful and friendly.

I thoroughly recommend as a day out for children and we’re already planning a return visit with friends very soon.
