Half term activities in Kent
Worried about keeping the kids amused next week? Here are some of the events and activities taking place for youngsters in Kent:
Sheep shearing demonstrations are taking place between Tuesday and Saturday at the heritage farm park.
Alongside all the regular fun on the farm, Brundle’s Big Top also has family shows lined up throughout the half-term week, including Imperial Birds of Prey, top children’s entertainer Nick Spellman ‘AnimalMan’ and Music Makers workshops.
Scotney Castle needs your help to solve a crime. Grab a map of the house before Sunday, June 5 and be ready to ask the suspects some questions.
With their answers see if you can find out who committed the crime and which object from our collection they used.
Normal admission charges apply and it is £1 per trail sheet.
Take the summer trail beween 10am and 3pm from Saturday, May 28 and Sunday, June 5. Follow the summer flowers around the park, collect the letters and unscramble them to claim a prize.
The event is fun in all weathers and a great way to explore the outdoors but welly boots are advisable! £1.50 per trail sheet.
One for Roald Dahl fans everywhere - a fantastic performance of Danny the Champion of the World comes to the Festival Theatre on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2.
Performances start at 2pm each day (gates open at 1.45pm).Telephone the box office on 01732 866114 for more information.
Dress like the Tudors at a special costume event on Friday, June 3.
You can step back in time as you dress in historical costumes and pose for a family portrait in the Orangery. (Normal admission charges apply.)
White Cliffs and South Foreland Lighthouse
Take a family walk and try some kite flying from Saturday May 28 until Sunday June 5 between 10am and 5pm.
Enjoy a cliff top walk along one of the UK’s most iconic landmarks spotting the summer orchids, wild flowers and ferries in the English Channel as you go. Pick up a map and head towards South Foreland Lighthouse – with its traditional 1950s style tea room, a Victorian lighthouse to climb as well as kite flying and games on the enclosed lawn.
Car parking charges, at £3.50 per car, apply.
The orchards are full of bugs and beasties, so hunt them out this half term.
A bug day on Wednsday, June 1, between 10am and 3pm includes finding and learning about the creatures with a leader before having a close encounter with Mega Bugs, including giant cockroaches, millipedes and devil stick insects, before creating a bug to take home at a craft workshop and enjoying a picnic under the trees.
The Wicked Witch of the West will be flying in during the day as the site is transformed for half term. Between Friday, May 28, and Sunday, June 5, visitors will feel like they are in the world of the Wizard of Oz with Munchkins, Dorothy and other familiar characters popping by.
There will also be a craft tent, face-painting, archery lessons and boat rides, plus 15-minute theatre performances.
Kent Wildlife Trust, Maidstone
Mix wild science with cool technology and you get the trust’s latest Reflecting Nature event on Thursday, June 2, at Tyland Barn. There will be an exhibition of artworks and a series of workshops that bring together science, technology, art and nature.
