Kent Kite Flyers will be giving out free kites at event on Walmer Green, Deal.

Free kites will be given to children during a new event on the May Bank Holiday weekend.

Kent Kite Flyers is offering everyone the chance to have a go on Saturday, May 28, from 11am, on Walmer Green in Deal next to the sailing club.

Cllr Pat Heath, chairman of Walmer Parish Council said: “The first 80 children will be able to pick up a kite for free and will be shown how to assemble, decorate and then fly it.

“Experts from Kent Kite Flyers will also be on hand to give demonstrations with larger and more sophisticated models.”

The green will be filled with community-based stalls offering refreshments throughout the day.

And a selection of club kites can be loaned for a short time in return for a donation to Slideaway, a bereavement charity for children which is Kent Kite Flyers’ supported organisation.

Malcolm Ford of Kent Kite Flyers said: “People might recognise us from previous visits.

“Walmer Green offers the perfect location for kite flying with lots of open space and beautiful views along the Strand and out across the English Channel. Kites will also be available to buy.”
