Kent to host drive-in fireworks display at County Showground in Detling

by Oliver Kemp

A 'pyromusical' fireworks spectacular will go ahead in Kent this year, which families will be able to watch from the comfort of their cars.

Phoenix Fireworks from Wrotham is putting on the two-day event on November 13 and 14 at the Kent County Showground at Detling near Maidstone.

It comes after most displays across the county have been forced to cancel due to Covid-19 and concerns around social distancing.

Keeping attendees in their cars means the event at Detling can go ahead whilst keeping different households suitably distant from one another.

But it also means there will be fewer tickets available than normal.

On the organisation's website it states: "All Covid safeguards will be in place and all current government advice must be followed by attendees.

"We have limited ticket sales to reflect social distancing requirements and marshals will be on site to ensure this happens."

The price for entry is £35 per car which can include up to seven people.

Gates will open at 5:30pm on both days, with the display taking place at 7pm and the event finishing by 8:30pm.

As the fireworks display takes place, cars will be able to tune into a radio frequency which will provide the accompanying sound and music.

Despite spectators watching from inside their own vehicles, the organiser's event page confirms that people will be able to get out to visit the food village and toilets set up on site.

If the display has to be postponed due to an increase in coronavirus restrictions, then customer tickets will be transferred to a new date in the spring.
