But publishers Harper Collins Children's Books have now confirmed fifth volume The World's Worst Parents, which the comedian wrote during lockdown, will be released on Thursday, July 2.

The book is also now available to pre-order from many book sellers.

And after three versions of the World's Worst Children, together with one about teachers, it's now time for the kids to get their own back this summer with parents and parenting now coming under the writer's spotlight.

Kids will need to pinch their nose at Peter Pong, the dad with the stinkiest feet in the world… jump out of the way of Harriet Hurry, the fastest mum on two wheels… watch out for Monty Monopolize, the dad who takes all his kids’ toys… and watch out for Supermum brandishing a toilet brush and a mop, out to save the world.

The World's Worst Parents is the second book David Walliams has released so far this year. The first - Slime - hit the shelves at the beginning of April as the country sheltered at home because of the coronavirus outbreak.

The father-of-one, who during the height of lockdown released free audio stories for children to enjoy at home, says he hopes the book will bring families some much needed laughter.

He said “I think we all need some comedy right now, so I hope this book will make kids and their grown-ups laugh.

"I wrote the book during lockdown, and it was so much fun to have something silly to take my mind off of everything."

With libraries still closed and children no longer bring books home from school, budget supermarket Aldi unveiled plans this week for its first ever Summer Reading Range, which children's books costing as little as £1.99. Learn more about the titles available and how to buy copies here.
