Young Driver driving lessons at Bluewater for February half term

Children as young as 10 will be able to get behind the wheel of a real car during half term.

Young Driver, which provides driving lessons for youngsters aged 10 to 17 is running two special events in Kent during the February school break.

The organisation, which is the UK's largest provider of pre-17 lessons, usually operates at Bluewater Shopping Centre in Greenhithe on select weekend dates.

But it will also be running two days of lessons on Tuesday, February 19 and Thursday, February 21. Lessons take place in new, dual controlled Vauxhall Corsas, with qualified approved driving instructors.

Young Driver says that by extending the learning period there is an opportunity to create a safer generation of newly qualified drivers.

For the lessons, a special road system is created with traffic signs, roundabouts and junctions, along with special areas to practice manoeuvres such as steering, control and parking.

Laura White from Young Driver, said: “February half term can be a tricky one in terms of finding things to do – the weather doesn’t always make it easy. But letting your child get behind the wheel of a car in a safe, fun environment is certainly something they’ll never forget.

"Not only will they have a great time, but you’ll also be helping them become a safer driver in the long run. Research shows that training drivers over a longer period of time and catching youngsters when their attitudes towards driving are still developing is key to producing safer roads for us all.”
