Ashford Picturehouse's autism friendly showings including Smallfoot and Spider-Man

Autism friendly showings have been launched at Kent's newest cinema.

Ashford Picturehouse, which opened in December, has announced details for its first two specialised screenings including one for this weekend.

Picturehouse Cinemas runs regular screenings at its cinemas to provide people with autism, sensory sensitivity, learning disabilities and/or additional needs with an opportunity to enjoy a trip to the cinema and says it is delighted to be bringing them to the new complex at Elwick Place.

The cinema says the specialised screenings will create a 'relaxed and welcoming environment' in which staff are sensitive and paying close attention to the needs of children and families with autism.

Adjustments to films in these screenings include no trailers or adverts, lights which are left on low throughout the film, reduced volume and the freedom for visitors to move around, make noise and sit where they wish.

Tickets are also at the reduced rate of £3 per person.
