When is the deadline for primary school applications in Kent and Medway for 2020?

Families of children starting school in September have just days left to submit their primary school application.

Both Kent County Council and Medway Council require all primary school application forms to be returned by Wednesday, January 15, 2020.

In Medway the deadline is 5pm on January 15. Parents in Kent have a few extra hours to mull over their final choices - with online applications required by midnight.

Parents with children due to go into reception this coming September can choose a number of schools on their application form in order of preference.

Families living in Medway must apply through Medway Council but can name both Medway schools and non-Medway schools on the application and those applying to the unitary authority can list up to six schools.

In Kent, families can apply for up to three schools with KCC.

But naming only one school does not automatically guarantee a child a place at that school and neither does naming a school more than once in the list.

Some schools, say education teams, may also need families to complete an additional form which is called a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) and families are advised to check if these are required and collect them from the school in question if necessary.

This year is also expected to see the opening of three new free schools in Kent - Ebbsfleet Green Primary School and Springhead Park Primary School will welcome pupils in Gravesend and Bearsted Primary Academy is set to open in Maidstone.

These schools, says KCC, will process their own applications for the September 2020 intake and interested families are advised to contact the schools directly for more information and these schools should not be named on the primary school application forms.

Offers

In both Kent and Medway, parents who apply online will be contacted after 4pm on April 16 with details of the school place their child has been offered along with information as to how they can accept or decline an offer or appeal a decision.
