Kent County Council urges families to make sure kids can Be Bright and Be Seen this winter

To help children be bright and be seen on the streets of Kent this winter we are giving away reflective keyrings.

As part of our campaign with Kent County Council’s Road Safety Team thousands of free reflectors are currently being distributed to primary school pupils and community groups.

Sadly, casualty rates for children during weekdays peak during rush-hour times when thousands of youngsters are making their way to and from school or to after-school activities. And with darker mornings and evenings it is more important than ever to ensure children can easily be spotted by motorists.

Our specially designed keyrings, which all carry the Be Bright Be Seen message, can be hung on bookbags, coats, backpacks and lunchboxes.

Because while bright and fluorescent clothing will show up during the day, it is only reflective material that is useful in the dark so that it can be picked up by a car’s headlights.

The Be Bright Be Seen keyring reflectors were made available free, via our KM Group websites, to schools and community groups via an online application for teachers, Scout and youth leaders and thousands are now being posted to those who applied on a first com, first served basis.

But if you were not able to obtain one of our keyrings for your child through this method - worry not - because thousands are also about to hit the county’s streets with our kmfm presenters and through our local offices.

kmfm will be at two Christmas lights switch-on events this month armed with bundles of the reflectors to giveaway to youngsters. Beginning at Westwood Cross on Friday, November 17 from 4pm followed by Fremlin Walk in Maidstone on Thursday, November 23 also at 4pm.

Keyrings are also now at KM Group offices in Thanet, Medway, Gravesend, Maidstone, Ashford, Sheerness and Deal for families wishing to kit their offspring out with the reflectors.

If you’re passing one of these offices during the week and would like an individual keyring for your child or children pop in and ask at the front reception desk.
