Teething problems, Wonder Weeks and Organix: Blogger Charlie O'Brien

by Charlie O'Brien

This week started with a family get together at my parents at the weekend. It was lovely as everyone was there – including three of my four brothers and my two gorgeous nephews.

I love coming from a big family – gatherings are always hectic but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I did mean to get a photo to show you but I was so caught up with chatting and chasing after my 15-month-old Noah that I completely forgot!

I think the rest of the week was fairly quiet for us. As a blogger – I really don’t want to paint a picture of perfect motherhood, because I don’t think it’s helpful for anyone. I strive to be honest and talk about all aspects of being a parent – and that includes the hard bits.

Motherhood can certainly be very lonely at times.

Nothing major has happened – I’ve just been finding it tough!

Noah has two new teeth coming through and as I’m sure you’ll know – teething can be hell. He’s been in so much pain and not been himself at all.

I’ve tried all the usual things – gels, teething solutions and paracetamol when things got really bad for him. He also wears an amber anklet - whether it helps or not I really don’t know.

On top of this he seems to be going through a new clingy phase – and when I say clingy I mean I think he’d actually get back into my body if he could! Every time I leave the room he screams so much it’s heartbreaking... and stressful.

Since I became a mum I’ve been a big fan of the Wonder Weeks app, which I have on my phone. It outlines all the different developmental leaps that babies go through and explains a lot of the rough patches.

According to my app Noah is 28 days off the next leap, but reading the list of signs he seems to be going through it all early.

But of course along with the hard bits, there have also been some lovely things this week.

Noah can now tell me where his head, nose and mouth are and he can point to the ducks, birds and cow in his book.

He also knows the sign language for ‘tidy up’. I’d love to say he also does the tidying up, but we’re yet to crack that bit!

Before I go I just want to mention something we did do this week – we went along to a workshop about fussy eating toddlers hosted by Organix. I am a ‘no junk mum’ and I learnt SO much about how to deal with my fussy eater and get him to try new vegetables and fruit. Keep an eye on My Kent Family next week for a full run down on the day.

Please do also pop over to my personal blog where I talk about everything to do with being a mum, and I'm also sharing lots of bits about my wedding in August!

Have a great week
